Infographic: Microprocessors

The microprocessor revolutionized the world as we know it. Dating back to the early 1900s, the advent of microprocessors had a tremendous impact on industries from computing and gaming to engineering and telecommunications. Microprocessors began as 4 bit devices, such as Intel’s 4004, but gradually evolved over time into increasingly complex and powerful 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit and finally 64 bit computations. This technology allowed computers to become faster, smaller, cheaper with each iteration of the microprocessor until today where most machines contain multi-core CPUs capable of lightning fast processing speeds. Not only has this technology enabled us to obtain useful results quicker than ever before it has shaped everyday life in ways that were previously unimaginable. All in all, microprocessors have played a major role in pushing us forward into this age enamored by technology.
