Intel 8259 Series Programmable Interrupt Controller (PIC), part number 8259A. This NMOS device provides a single-chip solution for managing interrupt requests from multiple peripheral devices in systems based on the 8080A, 8085A, 8086, and 8088 microprocessors. It offers 8 external interrupt lines that can be cascaded for expanded interrupt handling capabilities. The 8259A features an 8-bit external data bus, a supply voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V with a nominal 5.0V, and operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. Packaged in a 28-pin PDIP (Plastic Dual In-line Package) with through-hole terminals, it is suitable for applications in embedded systems and legacy computing architectures. An equivalent PLCC-28 pin package is also available.
