electronica 2026 takes place November 10- 13, 2026, at Messe München. The event brings the global electronics industry together to explore technologies and solutions spanning components, semiconductors, automotive electronics, artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, cyber resilience, and more.

If Munich is part of your electronica itinerary this November, here are some of the best ways to make the most of your time in the city.

Munich's Historic Center

Munich's Altstadt, or Old Town, is one of the easiest places to explore when you only have a few hours away from the trade show.

Marienplatz and the Neues Rathaus

Best for an evening walk after spending the day at Messe München.

Start at Marienplatz, the historic heart of Munich. The square is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus, or New Town Hall, with its famous Glockenspiel overlooking the plaza. From here, many of Munich's best-known landmarks, restaurants, shops, churches, and historic streets are within walking distance.

Getting into the center is relatively simple. Messe München is directly served by the U2 subway line at Messestadt West and Messestadt Ost, and Munich Central Station can be reached from the exhibition center in approximately 20 minutes without changing trains.

Asamkirche

Best for electronica visitors with limited sightseeing time.

Just a short walk from Marienplatz is Asamkirche, officially known as St. Johann Nepomuk Church. Its relatively small exterior gives little indication of the elaborate Baroque interior waiting inside. Ornate gold details, frescoes, sculptures, and dramatic architecture make it one of Munich's more distinctive churches.

Asamkirche is located on Sendlinger Straße in the city center and can easily be combined with Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt, or dinner in the Altstadt without requiring a separate half-day itinerary.

Munich Residence

Best for visitors with a free morning, arrival day, or extra day after the show.

If you have more time during the day, visit the Munich Residence, the former royal palace of Bavaria's Wittelsbach rulers. The complex includes elaborate state rooms, historic collections, the Treasury, and the Cuvilliés Theatre. During the November winter schedule, the Residenz Museum and Treasury are generally open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It offers a completely different side of Munich from the technology and engineering focus of electronica and is an easy addition to a day spent exploring the city center.

Visit Nymphenburg Palace

Best for an extra morning or afternoon offering a great way to experience Munich’s Bavarian history outside of the busy city center.

Another major historic destination is Nymphenburg Palace. The palace served as a summer residence for Bavaria's Wittelsbach rulers and remains one of Munich's most impressive royal landmarks. Inside, visitors can explore elaborate rooms and historic collections, while the surrounding palace grounds provide plenty of space for a walk.

electronica visitors should keep in mind that some of the smaller park palaces operate seasonally and are closed during the winter. The main palace and other principal attractions, however, still make Nymphenburg worthwhile.

Explore Munich's Engineering and Technology Heritage

After spending the day surrounded by the newest developments in electronics, you can continue the theme with some of Munich's best technology-focused attractions.

Deutsches Museum

Best for a post-electronica addition to your itinerary.

For engineers, technology professionals, and anyone interested in how innovation has developed over time, the Deutsches Museum remains one of Munich's most worthwhile attractions. The museum covers science and technology across numerous disciplines, making it a natural addition to an electronica trip.

Important note: The Museum Island location is normally open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., its exhibitions will be closed all day on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for a staff meeting. Visitors planning to see the museum during electronica should therefore choose another day.

BMW Welt and BMW Museum

A flexible option, best if your daytime schedule at electronica is packed.

Munich's connection to engineering is not limited to electronics. Automotive enthusiasts can head to BMW Welt and the BMW Museum near Olympiapark. BMW Welt combines architecture, automotive design, technology, and current BMW products in one destination. The BMW Museum, located nearby, traces the development of the company and its vehicles through more than 100 exhibits.

BMW Welt is also one of the more flexible options for a trade-show schedule. The building is open until midnight Monday through Saturday, although its vehicle showroom and staffed experiences operate primarily during daytime hours. The BMW Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Motorworld München and Winterworld

Includes a seasonal event

For another automotive-focused stop, visit Motorworld München in Freimann. Set inside a former railway repair facility, Motorworld brings together vintage cars, supercars, motorcycles, automotive businesses, workshops, restaurants, and event spaces. Visitors can walk through the main Motorworld complex free of charge.

Motorworld Winterworld begins November 7, meaning it will already be running when electronica begins on November 10. The seasonal event is scheduled from November 7 through December 18, 2026.

For visitors interested in automotive electronics, mobility, or engineering, Motorworld provides a fitting extension of the technologies being discussed at electronica.

Tour Allianz Arena

Best for attendees arriving before electronica, staying an extra day, or building a free half-day into their schedule.

For sports fans, Munich offers another internationally recognized attraction: Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich. On non-match days, visitors can take guided stadium tours that provide a behind-the-scenes look at areas typically reserved for players, staff, and media. Depending on the tour, stops can include the players' tunnel, dressing-room areas, press facilities, pitchside spaces, and other parts of the stadium.

You can also visit the FC Bayern Museum, which traces the history of one of Europe's most successful football clubs through memorabilia, trophies, multimedia displays, and exhibits.

Events Happening in Munich During electronica 2026

One advantage of visiting Munich in November 2026 is that several temporary exhibitions and cultural events overlap directly with electronica.

Munich Book Show

The 67th Münchner Bücherschau, or Munich Book Show, begins November 12 and runs through November 29, 2026, at the Haus der Kunst. The event is one of the region's largest book exhibitions and includes books spanning numerous genres along with author appearances and programming. Since it begins while electronica is still taking place, visitors staying through Thursday or Friday can add it to their Munich itinerary.

Munich Crime Festival

The Munich Crime Festival will also be underway during electronica. The fall edition runs through November 14, 2026, at venues around Munich and brings crime and thriller authors to the city for readings and related events.

Stonehenge: Ancient Secrets, New Discoveries

For something completely different, Munich's State Archaeological Collection is hosting “Stonehenge: Ancient Secrets, New Discoveries” from September 18, 2026, through August 29, 2027. The exhibition explores discoveries from modern excavations and scientific analysis of the prehistoric Stonehenge site, giving visitors another science-oriented attraction to experience while in Munich.

Catch a Concert After the Show

Munich's November event calendar also gives electronica attendees the option to finish a trade-show day with live music. Concerts scheduled around the event include Nico Santos on November 10 and Pizzera & Jaus on November 13. If you are looking for something completely removed from exhibitions, meetings, and sourcing discussions, checking Munich's concert calendar before your trip can be worthwhile.

Located only a short walk from Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt is one of Munich's best-known food markets. The market's vendors sell produce, cheese, meats, baked goods, prepared foods, and other regional specialties, making it an easy place to stop for lunch or a quick snack while sightseeing.

The market generally operates Monday through Saturday, although individual traders establish their own hours and some stalls close earlier during the winter.

Café Frischhut

Best for a quick taste of traditional Munich without requiring a sit-down meal.

Near Viktualienmarkt, Café Frischhut is known for its Schmalznudeln, freshly prepared Bavarian fried pastries that have become the café's signature. It is a simple stop to combine with Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt.

Englischer Garten and Olympiapark

Englischer Garten

Olympiapark

Important note: The Olympic Tower is closed for renovation and will not reopen during electronica 2026. Current plans place its reopening in 2027. You can still explore the park itself and combine the visit with BMW Welt or the BMW Museum.

Explore Munich's Art Museums

Munich's museum district provides another option if you want a break from the electronics industry for a few hours.

Alte Pinakothek and Pinakothek der Moderne

The Pinakothek museums span centuries of European art, design, architecture, and modern creativity.

Important note: Neue Pinakothek is currently closed for a major renovation, with reopening planned for 2029. A selection of its important 19th-century works is instead being displayed at the Alte Pinakothek and Sammlung Schack during the closure.

Rather than planning around all three Pinakothek museums, visitors in 2026 should prioritize the Alte Pinakothek for historic European painting or the Pinakothek der Moderne for modern art, architecture, graphics, and design.

Lenbachhaus

Lenbachhaus is another strong choice for anyone interested in Munich's artistic history. The museum is particularly known for its collection of works associated with the Blue Rider movement, including artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. If You Only Have a Few Hours After electronica

Several Munich attractions work well with a tighter schedule.

For a quick city-center itinerary, take the U-Bahn into central Munich and explore Marienplatz, Asamkirche, and Viktualienmarkt before finishing with dinner in the Altstadt.

If you would rather stay focused on engineering and design, pair BMW Welt with a walk through Olympiapark.

For something uniquely Munich that requires relatively little time, head to the Eisbach Wave, watch the city's river surfers, and continue through the Englischer Garten.

If you have a free half-day or an extra day before or after the trade show, Nymphenburg Palace, Allianz Arena, the Deutsches Museum, and the BMW Museum are better suited to longer visits.
